You are invited to join us as we continue our tradition of kicking off the skating season by cheering on some of our skaters who will be competing at Regionals and Sectionals at SCNY's brunch and exhibition!

After the exhibition, Timothy Goebel, the 2002 Olympic Bronze Medalist and SCNY member will talk about Competition Readiness and share some of his tips.

Juvenile and above skaters who are going to Regionals/Sectionals can sign up to skate their competitive programs at the Exhibition, but space is limited. There is no charge to participate. If you would like to participate, please e-mail us at mail@thescny.org by Friday, September 9th and give us the following information: name, skating level, program length, phone number and coach's name. As usual, first come, first served. We will let you know on September 12th if you are on the schedule.
If you are not skating at Regionals, please come to the the exhibition and come for Brunch on the back deck. Help send your friends off in style. It will be lots of fun and it is a great way to start the season.

Attention All Coaches!

At Mids, we will be offering a Special Spin Seminar for Coaches Only on Saturday, September 10th at 12:30 at Sky Rink.

 

IJS Spins - The Basics

  • The seminar will review all the needed documents coaches should have on hand to create levels spins for all levels.
  • All of the basic positions, difficult variations and level features will be covered.
  • All updated clarifications will be reviewed for all levels with a focus on the juvenile and intermediates.
  • Review of the GOE's
       Insight into the specific criteria the judges use to grade the overall quality of the spin - the GOE.

The Tech and Judge perspectives together = overall success of the spin.

The seminar will be presented by:

  • Scott Cudmore, International Technical Specialist and Master Rated Figure Skating Coach
  • Dana Schiff, USFS National Judge, USFS Packaging Specialist

ALL ENTRY FEES INCLUDE ONE HIGH DEFINITION DIGITAL DOWNLOAD OF YOUR PERFORMANCE from the Vision Photo Website.  If you sign up for multiple events requiring additional entry fees you will be able to download one performance for each event. Qualifying events will enable you to download your performance of the qualifying round ONLY.

PRACTICE ICE: 15 MINUTE OFFICIAL PRACTICE ICE SESSIONS ARE INCLUDED IN THE ENTRY FEES FOR JUVENILE THROUGH SENIOR LEVEL SKATERS FOR BOTH THE SHORT AND THE FREE PROGRAMS.

Practice sessions will be assigned when the schedule is posted. Additional practice ice may be purchased through Sky Rink.

INTERMEDIATE and NOVICE FREE (LONG) PROGRAM ONLY EVENTS:

At Mids, Intermediate and Novice Ladies qualify with their short program; as a result, only those who move on to the final round are asked to skate their long program. Because there are many more skaters who would like the opportunity to skate their long programs, SCNY has added Intermediate Ladies and Novice Ladies Free (Long) Program only events. Intermediate and Novice ladies may now enter the traditional combined event, the Free Program Event, or both. The Free Program Only Events are scheduled for Thursday; the qualifying rounds for the combined events are on Friday.
